Pesticides are chemical products designed to kill different kinds of pests.
Not all pesticides are alike. There are many different pesticide products on the market.
These can be categorized according to the type of pest they are designed to destroy. For
example:
• Insecticides kill different kinds of insects and bugs
• Fungicides kill different types of fungus
• Herbicides kill weeds and other types of plants
• Rodenticides kill mice and other types of rodents
• ALWAYS read the pesticide label on how to use the product.
• ALWAYS follow directions EXACTLY.
• ALWAYS wear protective clothing such as gloves, masks, long pants
and a long sleeve shirt when using pesticides.
• ALWAYS let areas sprayed with a pesticide dry well before allowing children and pets to
play in the area.
Pesticides are sold as liquids, sprays or powder,
They differ in the chemicals used to make the product and
in the concentration of these chemicals.
This is why reading the label direction on how to use the
product is so important.
ALWAYS follow these directions EXACTLY.
• NEVER use pesticides intended for OUTDOORS inside the house.
• NEVER use sprays outside when it is windy.
• NEVER leave pesticides open when not in use.
• NEVER store pesticides where small children could reach these products.
• ALWAYS wash well after using
pesticides or when the pesticide is
splashed on the skin.
• ALWAYS wash pets if they get
pesticides on their fur or are having
symptoms of pesticide poisoning.
• ALWAYS store pesticides in a locked area that children and pets cannot reach.
• ALWAYS store pesticides in their original container.
• ALWAYS make sure that pesticide tops are screwed on tight.
• ALWAYS put pesticides away when not in use.
• ALWAYS wash clothing worn when using pesticides separate from other items.

• NEVER pour pesticides from
their original container into
empty food containers.
• NEVER pour pesticides from
their original container into
another container unless
directions are to mix product.
• If pesticides have to be mixed,
NEVER keep unused mixtures.
Wash container and discard
immediately after use.
• NEVER try to stock up on
pesticides. Buy only the amount
that is needed for a specific job.

through ingestion, inhalation, or splashed on skin or in eyes,
don’t wait for symptoms to occur.
